due to covid-19, counseling services has been operating remotely to protect the health and safety of our students and staff. we have made some changes to the delivery of our services which now include telephone triage and teletherapy through zoom based on clinical assessment.
personal counseling that consists of a one-to-one experience where the focus is on resolving personal conflicts and developing strategies to cope more effectively with life’s challenges. this is our most popular service. we offer a brief therapy approach that is goal-directed and solution-focused. when more intensive help is required, counselors assist students and their families in accessing additional resources. learn more about our resource list for off-campus referrals.
psychological emergencies (risk of harm to self or others) are seen immediately during regular counseling hours. students who are in urgent need of assistance may walk into the counseling services office or call 215-572-2967 and will be triaged to determine their level of need. if a psychological emergency occurs outside of regular counseling hours, public safety (215-572-2999) and/or residence life (215-572-4026) may be contacted directly.
our part-time psychiatric nurse practitioner, dr. joe schatz, provides students with initial medication evaluations and medication management appointments at a low cost to full-time undergraduate and full-time graduate students. students must be in on-going, consistent treatment with a therapist at arcadia’s counseling services in order to be referred to psychiatry services. it is recommended that students with pre-existing mental health conditions plan ahead, have sufficient medication refills, and identify resources prior to arriving on campus.
every semester counseling services offers various support groups, depending on the needs of the students. group can be a powerful experience due to the support and understanding others can provide by going through similar experiences. many of our groups are skill-based in nature and students can learn specific strategies to help cope with issues such as anxiety and depression.
couples counseling is an opportunity to work with your partner on issues that may be impacting your relationship. couples counseling is available when both members of the couple are currently enrolled arcadia students. if one or both of you are not currently arcadia students, you may also contact us for information on community referral resources.

counseling services staff are available to consult with faculty, staff, students and parents about mental health concerns, how to refer a student for counseling, and referral assistance.

requests for counseling services are usually accommodated within one week of the request. please note that counseling services staff is not available or on-call after hours or over weekends. if a student needs off-campus support, they will be referred to community-based therapists, support groups, and/or given crisis line phone numbers.
our fee for part-time undergraduate and graduate students is a flat fee of $30 per session after the first two free visits.
